On November 26, 1973, Jimmy Connors of the United States beat fellow-countryman Arthur Ashe to win the man's singles final of the South African Open Tennis Tournament. Connors won the match in straight sets (6-4, 7-6, 6-3), a victory that was described as a peak performance for the American.
