Lorenzo Musetti won a tight Round of 32 match at the ATP Rome Masters, defeating Francisco Cerúndolo 7-6(9), 6-4 on Stadio Centrale’s red clay. The No. 8 seed closed it in 2h12m and finished ahead 83–79 in total points.

On May 11, 1987, the International Olympic Committee officially voted to bring tennis back as a full-medal sport for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. It was a landmark moment for the sport, which had been absent from the Olympics since 1924.

The decision did more than just reintroduce tennis to the Olympic stage. It opened the doors for professional players to compete, marking a major shift for the Olympic movement itself and signaling the gradual end of the strict amateur-only era at the Games.
