On November 28, 1999, Pete Sampras won the season-ending ATP Finals for the fifth time, tying Ivan Lendl’s record at the time. To achieve this feat, he defeated Andre Agassi in the final (6-1, 7-5, 6-4). For Sampras, it was a great way to finish a complicated year, during which he had to skip both the Australian Open and the US Open because of injuries and had lost his world No 1 spot.
