On November 9, 2008, Venus Williams rallied to win the Sony Ericsson Championships for the first time, defeating Vera Zvonareva, 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-2, at the WTA’s season-ending event in Doha, Qatar. Williams earned $1.34 million. For the first time, the women received the same prize money as the men at their season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai.
