It’s been more than a year since top stars like Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka first began voicing concerns over the Grand Slams’ financial and prize-money structure. But tensions appear to have escalated further after this year’s Roland Garros revenue plan was revealed, a move that reportedly left several players frustrated with how the earnings were being distributed.

Now, after previous discussions around the possibility of a boycott, some of the sport’s biggest names arriving in Paris are taking a firmer stand against the system.

Top-ranked players are now in talks for a media protest during the 2026 French Open.

On May 21, 1881, at the initiative of  Dr. James Dwight, the United States Lawn Tennis Association, known today as the United States Tennis Association (USTA), was founded in New York. It is the governing body for tennis in the United States. 

The meeting, held on Fifth Avenue that day in order to standardise the rules of tennis in America, also helped to found the first US Championships, later known as the US Open, and was the first step towards a new competition that Dwight already had in mind and would be come be known as the Davis Cup.
