If you ask Jessica Pegula about South Carolina, she’d probably take you back to her days at the Smith Stearns Tennis Academy, where she first got comfortable on clay. But safe to say, she’s got a new favorite memory now.
With her second straight title at the Charleston Open, Pegula didn’t just win again, she matched something Serena Williams pulled off 13 years ago, making this one feel a little extra special.

Tommy Paul grew up playing on clay courts at the age of seven when he was introduced to the sport by his parents in Greenville, North Carolina. The former World No.3 junior won the 2015 French Open boys singles title, and also reached the boys doubles final in the same tournament on the clay at Roland Garros. He wrapped up his junior career, which included wins over former world No.8 Taylor Fritz and 2022 US Open semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe, at the 2015 US Open, where he reached the boys’ singles final. |
