On this day 22 years ago, Andy Murray ended Britain’s 77-year wait for a Wimbledon men’s champion. In a straight-sets victory over world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, Murray triumphed 6–4, 7–5, 6–4 on Centre Court to become the first British man since Fred Perry in 1936 to win the title. After missing three championship points, Murray finally sealed the win on his fourth, collapsing in disbelief as a peak UK audience of 17.3 million watched. The win was his second Grand Slam and a defining moment in British sporting history.
