Collins Addresses Cincinnati Open Controversy

In 1974, the Cincinnati Open made a rare move indoors, swapping its usual outdoor hard courts for carpet courts at the Cincinnati Convention Center. It remains the only time in the tournament’s history the event wasn’t played outdoors. The change was prompted by weather-related scheduling issues, and by the very next year the tournament returned to its traditional open-air setting.
