By defeating Colombia’s Emiliana Arango 6-1, 6-2 in the first round on Tuesday, Iga Swiatek set a new Open Era record for the most consecutive opening-round victories (including round-robin matches), surpassing the mark previously held by Monica Seles. According to the WTA, Swiatek’s last opening-round defeat came at the 2021 WTA Finals in Guadalajara against Maria Sakkari. |
