Alexander Zverev lost to Luciano Darderi, 6-1, 6-7, 0-6, in the fourth round of the Italian Open. The German failed to convert several match points before being ‘bageled’ in the final set.

Luciano Darderi enjoyed a strong spell on the ITF junior circuit, compiling a brilliant 62–25 win-loss record in singles. In February 2020, he added a major milestone by winning the doubles title at the prestigious Banana Bowl alongside local player Gustavo Heide. Luciano claimed his maiden ATP Challenger title in 2021 at the Buenos Aires Challenger, lifting the doubles trophy alongside Juan Bautista Torres.
