Wimbledon 1999 marked the last time four American women reached the quarterfinals: Lindsay Davenport, Venus Williams, Serena Williams, and Monica Seles. Davenport went on to win the title, while Venus reached her first semifinal and 17-year-old Serena made her Wimbledon debut in the last eight. It was the first time both Williams sisters reached the quarters together. This run showcased the depth of American women’s tennis at the time. The feat has not been repeated since. |
