For Daniil Medvedev, the start of the Indian Wells Masters was shaky after his difficult trip from Dubai. But the Russian recovered quickly, and now he has defeated the World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals to reach the final. Still, the victory wasn’t easy, as Medvedev nearly got hit by a dangerous shot from Alcaraz.

Daniil Medvedev defeated Carlos Alcaraz 6-3, 7-6(3) at the Indian Wells to snap the World No. 1's 16-match winning streak. Medvedev controlled the clash with aggressive shotmaking and showed the tennis with which he once reached World No. 1.


On March 15, 1996, Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, who could both reclaim the world No 1 spot from Thomas Muster if they had reached the semi-finals at Indian Wells, were both defeated in the quarter-finals. Sampras was beaten by Paul Haarhuis (7-5, 6-7, 6-1), while Agassi lost to Michael Chang (6-7, 6-2, 6-1), allowing the Austrian to remain world No 1 for a total of six weeks.
